Technology! Is it needed in the classroom?

29 Aug

How do you answer that question?  I have found that teachers in the City Catholic Collaborative form a continuum along a line beginning with not at all and moving along to using it daily in every lesson.

Does it help engage students?  Are we fearful of the safety factor of social media and the students?  How do we teach and support ethical use of the internet and all its possibilities?  Are we afraid of losing control and no longe being the “sage on the stage” in our classroom?  These are just a few of the questions that need to answered again and again if we are going to provide 21st Century Learning opportunities to students.  Isn’t that we are about?

There is an interesting post on one of my favorite teacher Blogs, What Ed Said .  It gives diverse perspectives of teachers and technology.  There is no wrong answer here, but many ways of looking at the same thing.  Try reading it and see what you think.  Add a comment and explore our own perspectives.

Thanks 🙂 The good news is that many of the teachers at my school have shifted since then!
